Winnie Faye West, 89, passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 11 am at the Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Winnie Faye West was born March 21, 1935, in Groesbeck, Texas to Jessie Mae Hunter and Author Cleveland. She was a sibling to 8 sisters and 4 brothers. She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas under Reverend J. J. Johnson, Senior. She was a member for 28 years. Winnie attended Dunbar High School.
Winnie had a wide range of occupations and ended her career at Texas Instruments after over 15 years employed.
Winnie then stayed home as a housewife, loving mother, and grandmother.
Winnie is preceded in death by her mother Jessie Mae Hunter, her father author Cleveland, her husband Billye G. West, her son Robert Green, her sisters Vera L. Sims, Nora M. Mooring, Gladys Lewis, Ruby Waffer, Betty J. Turner, Aretha Willis, and Ivory Taylor, her brothers Heyward Cleveland, SM Cleveland, John Hunter, and Z. D. Parrish, her nieces Deedria Bailey and Jacqueline Orams Moore “Red,” grandson James Sneed, Jr., great granddaughter Gracelyn Thompson
Winnie leaves to cherish her moving memories of three children, Joe Moore, James Sneed, and Prencess Sneed-Pearson, grandchildren Ti Thompson, Brittany Thompson, Brianna Thompson, Jaynie Sneed, Erick Warren, Paula Henry, and Elisha Hooper, great grandchildren Trynity Thompson, Greg Jefferson, Joshua Thompson, Jaden, Elyjah, Lyric Haynes, nephews Virgil Moore, Robert Moore, Henry Hunter, DeCedric Woodruff, Tony Hunter, Shag Willis, Charles Woodruff, and Delton Mooring, a host of nieces, other relatives, and friends that loved her so much
