Willie Ray Dykes, Sr. departed this life on September 21, 2024, to be with the Lord. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, September 27, 2024, at 11 am at St. John Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.
Willie was born on September 26, 1941, to Vernon Dykes and Othello Collier Dykes. Willie was a member of St. John Baptist Church for many years where he faithfully served as an usher, trustee, and a member of the brotherhood.
Willie worked at Furr’s Distribution Center for over 25 years, Fleming Foods, also was employed by United Supermarket for 10 plus years.
Willie was also known for his service as a care provider to children and adults for many years.
Willie will always be remembered but never forgotten as a follower of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, a loving, giving, and faithful man with a spirit of compassion to all that embraced his presence; a man who knew no strangers, a man who loved God, family, church, and friends.
Willie is preceded in death by his wife Carol Ann Askew Dykes, his daughter Cynthia Dykes, dad Vernon Dykes, mom Othello Collier Dykes, his sister Inez Dykes, his brothers Arthur Ray Dykes, Orlester Dykes, Vernell Dykes, Ernest Dykes, John Dykes, and Willie Lee Dykes.
Willie is survived by his sons Willie Ray Dykes, Jr. (Edith) and Robert Earl Dykes (Chisela), his grandchildren Chris Peeples, Camille Richard, Lindiwe Dykes, his sister Albertine Dykes, his two brothers Billy Joe Dykes and Bennie Lee Dykes, his nieces Evelyn Pinkston and Lisa, his nephews Billy Edwards, Charles, Ira, Dravion, and Billy Ray, special longtime friends of the family Vernon Lee Garner and Ann Cleveland, and a host of other relatives and friends.
