Tonya Rachell Barnett 62, passed away on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, peacefully with family. Celebration of life Service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Christ Temple C.O.G.I.C. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, at Griffin Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tonya was born December 6th, 1961, in Lubbock, Texas. Tonya Rachell Barnett passed away on Saturday, June 1st, 2024, peacefully with family. Tonya was born December 6th, 1961, in Lubbock, Texas. Tonya graduated from Estacado High School in 1980 and went on to attend Odessa College. Tonya worked as a manager at Long John Silver's for many years.
During this time, she met several people, greeting them with a smile and warm heart. Tonya gave many people their first job and opportunities to change their life when others turned them away.
Tonya worked for the Lubbock County Tax Office for several years before retiring in 2013, due to medical illness. Tonya was a faithful member of Christ Temple, where she enjoyed serving as a member of the choir, Sunday School teacher, and Pastors’ aid program. Tonya was heavily involved with the youth and assisting with many fun activities to keep them involved in church. Tonya loved to travel and only needed the sun to rise as a reason to go shopping.
Tonya is preceded in death by her grandmother Jessie Robinson, grandfather Jim Robinson, grandmother Erma Barnett, and father R. L. Barnett.
Tonya leaves behind to cherish her memory; her mother Sylvia Barnett, brother James Barnett, sister Bella Becks, daughter Taja Tanner, son Jared Hunter, grandchildren A’Ryha Moore, Aubri’Ana Moore, Jay’vien Hunter, Hamden Moore, and Zay’leaiha Maden,, niece Latonya Hill, nephew Timothy Sims, a host of other relatives and friends.
