Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.  Visitations will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary. Mr. RL Barnett was born August 31, 1939, in Bastrop, Texas. He was known by many because he never met a stranger. Once he said “hey, don’t I know you, “he had a new friend. RL loved motorcycles and traveled to different states to attend motorcycle rallies, where one again he never met a stranger. He also had a love for dominoes and dancing. If you played with him or against him, it was amazing how he knew what was in your hand.
When he would dance it was like watching an amazing performance as he would glide so smoothly with his twists and turns, never missing a beat.

RL had a ninth-grade level of education because he went to work at an early age to help his mama and the family. He was always going to have a job, he worked for Coca Cola, Farm Pac, Zahn Paving, Inc., and Lubbock Truck Sales where he retired from.

RL accepted Christ at the age of 84 while being hospitalized for his illness. He was blessed in saying and accepting the sinner’s prayer and asking our Lord and Savior for forgiveness as he repented.
He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Jack and Erma Lee Barnett, his sister Thelma Turner, and his brothers Floyd Dillard, Sr., Oscar Hyde, Ollie Barnett, and HJ Barnett.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory; his wife Vinia Margaret Pratt-Barnett, his son James Barnett “JB” of Denton, Texas, his daughters Tonya Hunter-Barnett, Stephanie Barnett of Denver, Colorado, and Sherry Hudlin of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Sabrina Barnett, one sister Dorothy Curry, grandchildren Taja Tanner, Jared Hunter, LaTonya Hill, Timothy Sims “TJ’, Shaun Barnett, and Zion Jackson, great grandchildren Ceriya Barnett, Jordan Barnett, Ashton Barnett, Legacy, NaQua, NyKira, Jay’Vien Hunter, Zay’leigha Maden, A’Ryha Moore, Aubri Ana Moore, and Kamden Moore, nieces Velma Dillard, Lacresha Dunn, Tammy Dillard, Tammy Hyder, Angela Hyder, Sharon Harvey, and Felicia Barnett, nephews Floyd Dillard, Jr., Lonnie Turner, and Shannon Hyder, and a host of other relatives and friends.
