Rita Ortega, 66, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27th, 2025 with her family by her side. Visitations will be held Monday, February 3rd, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Private Disposition will follow under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

Rita Ortega was born in Lubbock on January 29th 1958 to Juan and Aurelia Hernandez. She attended New Deal Jr High and Idalou High School. In 1973 when she lost her mother she quit school to care for her younger brothers and sisters and did until she was 26 and then Married. She went on to have her one and only daughter Jeannette who ended up in a coma after a vehicle accident. She cared for her day and night making sure she was comfortable until the very last day she was on this earth. Her devotion and love not only to her daughter but everyone who was a part of her life was done whole heartedly. She never complained even though she was exhausted that’s just the kind of person she was. 

She is preceded in death by her mother Aurelia Valdez Hernandez her younger brother Jerry Hernandez and her father Juan Hernandez. 

She leaves behind her husband Rudy Ortega her daughter Jeannette Ortega five sisters Ninfa Ramirez, Isabel Hernandez, Adella Morales, Josie Hernandez and Christina Harris. Three brothers Juan Hernandez jr. Valentine Hernandez and Ruben Hernandez and all her beloved dogs, and other relatives and friends. 

She was the best daughter, sister and friend anyone could hope to have. She will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. May she rest in the peace that she deserved. Until we meet again. Much love to you.
