Olda Dene Lewis, 70, entered into his eternal rest on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11 am at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Private Disposition will follow under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 3 pm to 5pm at Griffin Mortuary. Olda Dene Lewis was born on November 27, 1953, in Lubbock, TX to the late James Lewis, Sr. and Mary L. McCormick.
Olda graduated from Estacado High School excelling in sports. Olda followed family members in the sports arena at Dunbar High School. Uncle M. Hibbler went to state, Walter Hibbler went to state in football in 1968. Brothers James was quarterback and Rodney was all around sports and Olda’s son, Chike Lewis, broke records. Olda set a record in track in long jump at Estacado and went on to state and all American track star at South Plains College where he received a scholarship, recently inducted into Hall of Honors in his accomplishment in State.
Olda went on to receive an excellence in sports at Eastern New Mexico University, also selected as one of the 100 best dressed black men in Lubbock. His only sister received basketball sweetheart at Estacado High School
Olda was an avid golf player following in the steps of his uncle Joe Hibbler. He lived a life of love, family, friends, music, sports, savoring each day that God gave him.
Olda is preceded in death by his parents James Lewis, Sr. and Mary L McCormick, his aunt and uncle Theodore and Opal Lewis, nephews Kenard, Rodney, Jr., and Marqus, his half sister Shirley Johnson.
Olda leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter LaKecia Whitehead (Bobby), his sons Chike Lajuan Lewis (Yolanda), Reginald Marshon Essix (Rita), and Brandon Kaneal Lewis, his sister Glenda G. Mooney-Tobe (Jeff), his brothers James Allen Lewis, Jr. (Beverly), and Rodney Lewis (Bessie), his 12 grandchildren, his 5 great grandchildren, his niece Nadia Louise Lewis, his nephews Michael Lewis, JJ Lewis, Derrick Lewis, Antoine Lewis, and Tamanga Lewis, and a host of other relatives and friends.
