Maurice A. Williams passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024. 1:30 a.m. in his home surrounded by his loving wife Lynda. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 12 noon at Church of the Nations. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Maurice was born March 30, 1947, to Mary Granville-Nelson and Julius Williams in Lubbock, Texas and attended Ella Iles Elementary and graduating from Dunbar High School. He went on to further his education by attending and graduating from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and becoming a Certified Educator. He later moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he taught school and GED classes.
After returning to Lubbock, Maurice became civically involved be working several city boards namely the Citizens Traffic Commission and Public Transit Advisory Boards. He was a member with the literacy Lubbock Program teaching Adult Basic Education (GED).
Maurice was a music and sport history fanatic. He was always happy to tell people that he personally knew the Wilson family, he was happy to say he taught the 2 younger boys Ronny and Robert. He loved taking care of his yard. Although he may be gone from this world his legacy lives on through the people he touched because we carry his memories with us, and these memories will always live in us.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Lynda, his three stepsons Alaric, Anthony, and Anson, one step-daughter Gwendolyn Montes and her children; one sister Patricia Nelson and one brother Franklin Nelson, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Maurice is preceded in death by his parents, one brother Erskine, and his favorite uncle Saul Williams.
