Mrs. Marva Lane (Turner) Dunn, 80 of Lubbock, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 11 am at Rising Star Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary.
Mrs. Marva was born in Tyler, Texas to Dimples Anthony and John Turner on March 14, 1944. She went to high school in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Texas College with a B.A. degree in Education. She married James A. Dunn on August 2, 1969. She retired from the US Probation Office.
Mrs. Marva was a musician since the age of 12, where she played the piano and organ for several churches all over East Texas, Dallas, and Lubbock.
She was a faithful member of New Mt. Moriah (Dallas, Texas) and Starlight Bethel (Dallas, Texas). She and James moved to Lubbock to be with their grandchildren and she united with Rising Star Baptist Church and she also was musician for Greater St. Luke Church. She enjoyed attending church, playing bingo, traveling, and watching her grandchildren play sports and other activities.
Mrs. Marva is preceded in death by her husband James Dunn, and her mother Dimples Turner.
Mrs. Marva is survived by her daughter Regina Culver (Hiawatha), her son Brian A. Dunn, her grandchildren Trey Culver (Emily), Jeremiah “J.J.” Culver, Jarrett Culver, Ava Dunn, and Sydney Dunn, her nephew Paul Shepherd, her godson Dan Pride (Vaneeka), and a host of special cousins and friends.
