LLouella D. Hawthorne, 90, transitioned from this life to eternal life on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Manhattan Heights Church of Christ. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Viewing will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary. Louella D. Hawthorne was born December 26, 1932, in Wetumpka, Alabama to Charlie and Jessie Dewhart. She moved to Lubbock, Texas 1965. She later married James Hawthorne. She enjoyed listening to music, working in her yard, loved gardening, fishing and sitting in her front yard talking to people as they passed by. She always greeted everyone with a big smile, loved family coming together on all occasions, and loved spending time with her grandkids and great grandkids. She loved taking them fishing and teaching them how to fish. She always cooked Sunday dinner for her family and anyone who stopped by. She worked at Plain Coop Oil Mill where she retired in 1995. She was always willing to lend a helping hand. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her husband, James Hawthorne; her daughter, Latorsha Hawthorne; her son, James Bernard Hawthorne; her sisters, Jesse, Thelma, Jettie Bee, Betty, and Latisha. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Charlie Mae Durham, Loretta Young, Tammy Hawthorne, and Kim Hawthorne; her sons, Derrick Hawthorne and Brian Hawthorne; her Charlie Dewhart, Sr.; her grandchildren, Pamela Dewhart, Stevie Wayne Hawthorne, Anna Joyce, Rashantu, Brentana, Brent, D’Najha, Delton, Dasharri and Rachell; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
