Lester Lee Newman "Pookie"

Lester Lee “Pookie” Newman passed away unexpectedly at his residence in Lubbock, TX at the age of 71 on November 14, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held  Tuesday, November 28th, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Trinity Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.  Visitations will be held Monday, November 27th, 2023, from 4 p.m to 7 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary. Lester “Pookie” Newman was born October 29, 1952 in Lubbock, TX to Weldon and Enolia Newman. He graduated from Lubbock Dunbar High School in 1971. While in high school, he was a gifted athlete excelling in basketball and baseball. After high school, he met and married the love of his life Sharon Ann Johnson of Bay City, TX.  Their marriage was an exemplification of love and commitment for forty-four (44) wonderful years. Lester was a member of the Scoggin-Dickey Automobile Dealership family for over forty (40) years. Lester Newman was a passionate and skillful golfer. He will be deeply missed by the local golfing community. He was an active member of the Trinity Church in Lubbock, TX for over twenty-five (25) years. He lived life as a man of integrity and honor, deeply committed to family and friends. His word was bond! He is preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Newman, his daughter, Danielle Newman, and his son, Lester Newman Jr., all of Lubbock, TX; parents Weldon and Enolia Newman (Lubbock, TX); sisters: Bobbie J. Adams (Lubbock, TX), and Deloris A. Dickson (Minneapolis, MN); brothers: Jesse Coleman and Sammy Newman (Lubbock, TX), and Joe Newman (Carson, CA). He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daman and Felicia Newman, of Lubbock, TX and his adoring grandchildren:  Daman Jr., Christopher, Jeremiah and Daman III (great grandchild); his siblings:  James Newman and Stan Newman of Lubbock, TX, Redus Newman of Homestead, FL, and Allan Newman of Austin, TX; and a host of nieces,  nephews worldwide, other relatives, and friends.
