Leona “Louise” Naomi Burns, 82 went to be with our Lord on Sunday, September 17th, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, September 22nd, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 21st, 2023, at Griffin Mortuary from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. She was born on October 28th, 1940, to the late Johnny and Louzada Riley in Marlin, TX. Her family relocated to Lubbock, and it was here she would meet the love of her life, Leonard Burns. They were married May 6th, 1966, and spent 56 years creating a legacy of love, faith, and family. Leona spent her life fulfilling her calling as the matriarch of her family. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior early on in her life. She attended Community Baptist Church, where she joined the choir and shared her love of music and worship. She exemplified everything that the word homemaker is. She took pride in preparing the best meals, always having a sweet treat on the table and caring for her children, grandchildren, and her husband. No one left her home without an offer to be fed or a cold pop. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Leonard, brother, Ernest Riley, sisters, Mildred Bogus, Evelyn Piper, Juanita Hall, Johnnie Mae Kimball, and Bertha Wallace, and son, Robert Lowery. She is survived by daughters, Debora Kelly (Greg) of Lubbock, TX; and Cheryl Lowery of Richardson, TX; son, Leonard Burns, Jr. (Karin) of Germany; her 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
