Leon McDonald

Leon McDonald, 73, departed this life on Friday, March 31, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Bethel AME Church. Private Disposition under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Leon McDonald was born on July 7, 1949, in New Mexico to Mattie McDonald and Ray Hurd, Sr. Leon attended school in Crosbyton and graduated in 1968. He attended college at Lubbock Christian University. He soon joined the army in 1971 and served until 1976. He was a Vietnam Veteran. While in school Leon was track star and still holds a record in the 880 in Crosbyton. Those who knew him, knew he loved bowling!!! He bowled for over 40 years. There is no bowling alley in Lubbock that didn't know Leon. He was a very giving person and loved his family and friends. Leon is preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Steale and Ray Hurd, Sr.; sister, Pam McDonald; and brother, T.C. McDonald. Leon leaves to cherish his memory; his daughters LaCarla Deyon and Cassandra Templeton; his son, Nathaniel Hicks; his sisters, Mary Ann Holloman and Linda Francis; his brother, Kenneth McDonald; grandchildren, Miquia, Greyson, Matthew, Christine, Nathan Nasean, Kesean, KyJuan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
