Johnny Taylor, Sr., "Pappy", 41, passed away on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, July 29, 2024, at 2 p.m. at Hope Deliverance Temple. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Griffin Mortuary from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Johnny “Pappy” Taylor Sr. was born to the proud parents of Johnny Johnson Jr. and Jonita Taylor on July 23, 1982 in Lubbock, Texas. He departed this life on July 14, 2024.
Johnny Taylor Sr. attended Hunt Elementary and then he went to Alderson Jr. High School. He graduated from Estacado High School on May 24, 2000. He was the life of the party as well as the family jokester. He was a loving father, son, brother, nephew and uncle. He was dearly loved and will be truly missed.
He married Melquisha Whitfield Taylor on March 23, 2003 and to this union three children were born.
He worked at Dale Boyles Heating & Plumbing as an apprentice and also worked at Texas Tech as a construction worker.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father Johnny Johnson Jr., his grandmother Thelma J. Smith, his brothers Bruce Freeman and Danny McKenzie, and his nephew DeLance Wade.
Johnny leaves to cherish his memory; his mother’s Jonita Taylor and Joyce Johnson; his grandparents, Ida Mae Knox and Henry Dewberry Jr.; his seven children, Talaiah Taylor, Johnny Taylor Jr., JaKailyn Taylor, Imani Taylor, Jaliyah Taylor, Cordai Taylor, and Jordan Taylor; his sister’s, Syreeta Taylor and Carla Johnson; his brother’s, Micheal McKenzie, Johnny McKenzie, Iris Wade, Kenneth “Peel” Johnson, Kevin “Keno” McKenzie, and Jeffery “Moe” Whitfield; his two grandchildren, Lauryn Taylor and Ja’Kaiyah Taylor; his nieces, Denisha “Kena” Johnson, Kaziyah Ranson, Naturi Ranson, Dazia McKenzie, Eyahnna Wade, and Iyahnnie Wade; his nephews, Kevin McKenzie, Kevontae McKenzie, Kazavian McKenzie, Danny “KeKe” Johnson, Keshawn Johnson, Jazzie Wade, Jamal Wade, Iris D. Wade, Tracie Wade, and Michael McKenzie Jr.; and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends.
