On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Johnnie Mae Deary Stigers peacefully passed away after a brief illness at the age of 78. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, July 5, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Griffin Mortuary. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Johnnie Mae Deary Stigers, a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, was born on July 5, 1945, in Cameron, Texas, to the late Otis and Charlie Mae Deary. She professed her faith in Jesus Christ early in life and was baptized at Alexander Chapel Church of God in Christ.
Johnnie Mae received her education in the Petersburg Independent School District before moving to Houston, TX, and later settling in Lubbock, Texas. She dedicated several years of service at the Lubbock State School and subsequently pursued her passion for caring for children by establishing her own in-house daycare. Alongside her beloved mother, Charlie Mae,
Johnnie Mae played a pivotal role in nurturing and guiding numerous successful adults in the Lubbock Community.
In 1964, Johnnie Mae married Napoleon Ellison, and together, they welcomed their daughter, Connie Lorraine Ellison. Connie later blessed the family with two sons, Larry Harris Jr. and Jonathon Harris.
Johnnie Mae was renowned for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends. Her grandchildren affectionately called her "Maw Maw," and she found joy in playing cards, listening to music, entertaining family, traveling, and maintaining her impeccably groomed yard. Her favorite mantras, "Work with It" and "I'm Johnnie Mae every day," reflected her resilient spirit and positive outlook on life.
Johnnie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Charlie Mae Deary Phylow, and siblings Odell, Wilbert, Samuel, Jim, Melvin, and Joe Deary.
She leaves behind her loving daughter, Connie Ellison; brother, Tommy Williams (Charlene); cherished grandchildren, Larry Harris Jr., Jonathon Harris (Ashley); adored great-grandchildren, Legacy Shanee Harris, Jasiel Nevaeh Harris, Jezian Nevaun Harris, Jasper Richard Lee Harris, and Amar Jawn Aguero; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Johnnie Mae Deary Stigers will be dearly missed and forever remembered for her boundless love, unwavering faith, and profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
