Jerry Stephen Joyce

Jerry Stephen Joyce, 54, passed away on Saturday, January 4th, 2025. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Morton, TX. Interment will follow at Morton Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, January 17th, 2025, from 4pm to 6pm at Griffin Mortuary. 

Jerry Stephen Joyce (AKA Brother-Stephen, Mister, Booty Butt, Fatty, Stephen, Buddy, Lover Boy, Uncle Jerry) was born to James and Katherine Joyce on January 3, 1971, in Morton, Texas. 

Jerry was the first baby to be born in Cochran County that year. Jerry attended Levelland ISD in the special needs program for many years, he got to go with mom unless he pretended to be too sleepy, and mom would let him stay at home. Jerry’s personality was contagious, as he would pretend not to be listening or paying attention but would laugh during conversations or interactions that we thought he didn’t see or hear. One year Mom decided that she wanted to go to Center, so all the girls plus Jerry took off, we all somehow fell asleep except for Jerry, he screamed and woke us all up so Mom decided to pull over at the next rest stop and sleep a little bit before continuing on. He loved music and drinking beer, giving kisses and hugs (especially to pretty girls), Facetiming April and playing the HeYa game. Jerry taught us all unconditional love. He knew everybody’s nickname for him. He knew when danger was near and would crawl/or pull you close to him as to whisper it in your ear. 

Jerry is survived by (2) brothers Charles Joyce (Teresa) and Billy Joyce (Rene’) of Lubbock, (3) Sisters, Darlene Joyce-Carter of Morton, Theresa Joyce and Pearly Cotton (Kyle) of Lubbock. (7) Nephews Tony Joyce, Jacob McCowin, Jeffery Joyce, Jason McCowin, Chad Joyce, Nickilaus Joyce and Ben Joyce-Carter; (7) Nieces Kimberlee Meyers, Rachel Holmes, Amber Joyce, Candace Joyce, Whitney Joyce, April Herrera, and Trinity Cotton. (5) Aunts, Hazel Bolton, Verlene Moore-Buckley, Ernestine Evans, Annie Pearl Weaver, and Wilma Williams (4) Uncles, YT Patton, Willie Glen Moore, Kenneth Joyce, and Gregory Joyce. (13) Great-nephews and (11) great-nieces (3) girlfriends Brandi Kelly, Felicia Phea and Shanna Blackstone Pennington. (1) BFF, Colleen Grisby. A host of family and friends. 

Preceding him in death was his parents James and Katherine Joyce, (2) brothers Jimmy and William Joyce, (1) sister Kathleen McCowin, (1) nephew Jimmy Jr Joyce, and (1) niece, Baby Girl McCowin and (1) great-nephew Ranen Holmes.
