Ira Rogers, Sr., 82, departed this life on Friday, May 26, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. James Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. A viewing will be held Friday, June 2, 2023, at Griffin Mortuary from 4 to 6 p.m. Ira Rogers, Sr. also known as Chuck, was born on October 4, 1940, in Dime Box, Texas to Nunnie Rogers, Sr., and Annie Mae Rogers. Ira Rogers accepted Christ at a young age at Bethel St. Paul United Baptist Church. Ira started driving trucks at 15 years old, he stopped that to serve in the army in the 70s. After serving some years he married Celestine Rogers on February 17, 1989, and they were happily married until her passing on December 2, 2009. They made a home in O’Donnell, Texas from 1992 till his passing. He was employed by Key Energy from 1992-2023 and that’s also where he retired in February 2023. Ira enjoyed gambling, family, and talking, he was a big jokester, and he had the biggest heart. Ira is preceded in death by his parents, Nunnie Rogers, Sr., and Annie Mae Rogers; his wife, Celestine Rogers; his sisters, Caroline Rogers, Annie Mae Rogers, Ruthie Mae Rogers, and Bessie Lipscomb; daughters, Farris Whatley; grandson Antawn Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Bethany Hunter. Ira leaves to cherish his life and memory; his children, Ira Rogers, Jr., Ollie Hunter (Vicky), Stephen Hunter, Sr. (Misty), Reginald Jones (Rachael), Rodney Rogers, Jermaine Rogers, Michelle Rogers (Donnell), LaTysha Jones (Justin), and Crystal Rogers; his brothers, Nunnie Rogers, Jr., Elder Roy Rogers (Yvonne), James Rogers, Johnny Rogers, and Charles Rogers; his sister, Martha Davis (Johnny Lee); a host of other relatives, friends, co-workers, and people he met in his many years of life.
