Amazing grace how sweet the sound, Hattie Elizabeth White Courtney better known as Grace by her grandchildren and was an earth angel. She was born April 25, 1963 to Birdella White and Charles Hawkins, unbelievable to them, this was no ordinary birth it was extraordinary. A soul that served others and took on the burdens of others to lighten their loads. Even she struggled to carry her own at times. She was a woman of grace, who always managed to keep giving. She always said it was “Nobody but God.” She was a woman of faith.

As a child, she attended Martin Elementary, Alderson Jr. High, and Estacado High School. She was a hard worker and didn’t play about keeping everything clean. The most merciful was her being at the Overton Hotel and Conference Cantan. She was employee of the month there from 2009 until 2023. She was honored with a special award in excellence. Guests would ask for her by name.

She adored her grandbabies. They gave her the name “Grace”, her answer was always yes to them. They meant the world to her and they will never forget how much she meant to them. She taught them about God and without him there is nothing. She accepted Christ at Faith Deliverance Church under the leadership of Elder McNeal and later moved to Victory in Praise under the leadership of Supt. Chris Moore.

She had tremendous faith in God. She never stop believing in “God.” She knew that if he didn’t do a thing, she knew he could. She married Joe Henry Courtney in 1994.

She is preceded in death by her father Charles Hawkins, her grandparents Hattie and Robert White, grandmother Hawkins, and grandfather Hawkins, four uncles, and two aunts.
