Dorothy Ree Moore, 91, departed this life on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Dorothy Ree Moore was born July 25, 1933 in Lott, Texas to Riley Rand Sr. and Easter Masters-Rand who preceded her in death. The family moved to Odessa TX in 1942. Dorothy attended and graduated from Blackshear- the First black High School-Blackshear in Odessa Texas. Dorothy comes from a family of athletes, she was a valuable asset to the DISTRICT 24-B GIRLS CHAMPIONSHIP BASKETBALL TEAM, 1949 girls track team. In 1951, Dorothy was named Miss Blackshear. 1952 she was a member of the “AMORES TRI-HI-Y”and a salute for the achievement of 1952 Class Valedictorian after graduation, Dorothy attended 2 years of Junior College in Odessa, TX. Dorothy moved to Lubbock, Texas to pursue her passion in cosmetology where she attended Cosmetology school. After graduation she received her Texas State License as a Cosmetologist. She worked at Margie's Beauty Salon as a hair stylist, and assistant manager. She went on to establish her own clientele as an eyebrow and eyelash specialist. Dorothy worked for 50+ years before retirement in 2003. Dorothy met and married the love of her life - Clyde Moore Jr. in 1956. They were married for 50+ years. One child (Darla Clydell Moore) was born from this union. There afterwards, she cared for her loving husband until his transition in 2005. Dorothy was a faithful member of Lyons Chapel Baptist Church in Lubbock, TX for over 60 years. She was an active member of the Senior Mission Society called Nannie Burroughs Circle. This circle followed the curriculum from the book “The Worker”. She also served as a member on the Church Trustee Board. In 2004, Darla transferred to Dyess AFB, Abilene, Tx to be closer to her loving parents. In 2007, Darla retired from the USAF and remained in Abilene, TX. In 2010, Dorothy finally agreed to permanently move to Clyde, Tx with Darla. After a fall in 2015, Dorothy became a resident at a Long-Term Care facility in Abilene, TX. While at the facility, she was an active member of the Resident Council Board who would coordinate and correspond with management on residential care. She made many friends at that facility. In 2019, Darla moved Dorothy closer to Clyde, Texas, to Clyde Long Term Care Living Center (approximately 4 miles away from Darla’s residence). Dorothy established wonderful relationships with the residents and nearly all the staff; so intimate that most of the staff would refer to her as “MAMA”. Dorothy lived there comfortably, receiving love and attentive care. One particular staff member would prepare fresh fruit and other delicacies for Dorothy. In 2023, Dorothy was unanimously voted as the Valentine Sweetheart. Dorothy was a dignified, kind, modest, pleasant disposition, smart, educated, & sassy lady (the list goes on) and she had a beautiful smile. One other thing was her sweet distinctive voice. Smooth, distinct and joyful. You couldn’t mistake that voice. Dorothy was known to be the connoisseur of cooking sweets. At all food gatherings, it was without a doubt who would prepare the sweets, in other words it was EXPECTED that Dorothy would prepare homemade sweets. She could TELL you the recipe BUT it was always something that she would add that nobody else could…a little dab if this, a little dab of that, that 1 extra stir, 1 drop of this…. all added up to LOVE and PERFECTION. Several have tried to mimic the recipes but have failed; it just didn’t taste the same or look the same as Dorothy’s. That Strawberry cake, 7-UP cake, Banana Pudding, Sweet Potato pie, and fried fruit pies made from homemade crust…definitely made the mouth water!!! Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Moore Jr.; Father-Riley Rand Sr; Mother- Easter Rand; sisters-Bertha Lee Jernigan & Ruth Ella Rheams; brothers-Riley Rand Jr. & Henry Rand; and Grandson-Keaton Wendell Rome. Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories: daughter Darla Clydell Moore of Clyde Texas, son Lewis and daughter-in-law Susan Moore of Houston, Texas, and hosts of family and friends.
