Dorothy Lee McDowell, 80, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 11 a.m. at First Progressive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, from 4pm to 6pm at Griffin Mortuary. Dorothy Lee McDowell affectionately known as “Wee-Wee” was born on January 26, 1944, in Madisonville, TX to her parents Willie B. and Eva G. Ross. She was the 9th born of 10 children. She attended Lubbock School District.
Dorothy Lee married Charles McDowell and 5 children were added to this union.
Dorothy grew up in church at the Alexander Chapel Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor M. J. Alexander. She was baptized at an early age and accepted Christ as her Savior. She retired from Texas Instrument.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Willie B. and Eva G. Ross, her son Gregory Ross, her sisters Mattie Lee Goodwin, Vivian Johnson, Eva Mack, and Ester Cleavland, her brothers Johnnie J. Ross, Jame A. Ross, Willie B Ross, Jr.,and Leslie Joe Ross.
Dorothy leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter Paula A. McDowell, her special daughters Bobbie Sue Howard, Tina Ranson, and Charlotte Green, her sons Charles Ross (Regina), Jerry McDowell (Sharon), and Patrick McDowell (Asha), her brothers Kenneth Ross and Westly Ross, her 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
