Dallas Banks, Jr., 79 of Irving formerly of Lubbock, peacefully transitioned from life to gain his crown on Saturday, April 22, 2023. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Lyons Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Dallas Banks, Jr., affectionately known as “D. Jr.”, was born on April 27, 1943, to Dallas, Sr. and Hattie Mae Oages Banks. Dallas received his education from Rosebud, Texas ISD. He moved to Lubbock. Texas shortly after graduating high school and worked for First Presbyterian Church as a custodian. He later worked for Texas Tech University for many years before retiring. Dallas met and married Earnestine James Smith on July 19, 1967, raised 3 children, and shared 55 memorable years together. They made their home in Lubbock, Texas for many years before moving to North Richland Hills, Texas. In December 2018, Dallas accepted Christ at an early age, and later united with Lyons Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Wendell D. Davis, where he was baptized. Dallas is preceded in death by his wife Earnestine Banks, his parents, Dallas, Sr. and Hattie Mae Oages Banks, his 3 brothers, Charles Woodruff, Herman Banks, and Henry Banks, 2 grandchildren, Anthony Russell and Alexia Smith. Dallas leaves to cherish his precious memories and carry on his legacy; his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Jeff Austin on North Richland Hills, Texas; goddaughter, Vera LaNell Maxie of Houston, Texas; sons, Lorenzo Smith, Jr. of Lubbock, Texas, and Jerry Allen Smith of North Richland Hills, Texas; his brother, Claude Banks (Thelma) of Houston, Texas; his sisters, Naomi Milligan of Temple, Texas; Cordelia Mustiful of Fort Worth, Texas; and Elizabeth Glover (Willard) of Houston, Texas; his grandchildren, Adriane Smith of Atlanta, GA; Jeffrey D. of Austin, Texas; Christina Williams (Steven) of Killeen, Texas; and Loren Smith of Seattle Washington; 8 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
