On November 5th, 2023, Betty Jean Smith, 75, a loving mother, granny, and sister was called home in the city of Lubbock, TX. Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, November 17, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Ford Memorial C.O.G.I.C. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Betty Jean Hooker was born to Lawrence Dial and Lottie Mae Hooker on May 24th, 1948, in Lubbock, TX. Betty was known as an honest, caring, and loving soul. She had a laugh and smile that would light up any room. She was a strong woman and raised 4 children on her own. She never let her children go without and made sure that their clothes were always nice and neat. Betty will forever be remembered for her style, willingness to listen, and great advice. She always made sure you knew that everything would be alright. Betty will be missed tremendously. Her smile that lit up the room, deep dimples, and contagious laugh will never be forgotten. Her love for her children, grandchildren, family, and friends will forever be cherished. Betty is preceded in death by her grandparents, JW and Gellia Hooker, Joseph and Johnnie Dial, her parents, Lawrence Dial and Lottie Mae Hooker, her son Kerry Barrow Parker, three aunts Minnie Barron, Clara Stevenson, and Dora Powell White, and two brothers Althemer Betts and Bobby Thompson. Betty is survived by her siblings, Margaret Marcy, Suzanne Dial-Smith, and Willie McDowell; children, Tracy Barrow (Demetris), Stephanie Washington, Deena Moore, and Tia Parker; grandchildren Shammal (Stephanie), JaBari Tawatha, MarKeith, Lanesia, Gerron (Jordyn), DaLencia, A’licia, TaSheena (Dorien), Bre’aunna, DeQuavia, DeMorian, Xavion, Keona (Keyton), Lavendrick, Aiden, Journee, and JaKerrian, twenty-two great-grandchildren, s special friend/sister-in-law Mattie Russell, and a host of family and friends.
