Austin Norris, Jr.

Austin Norris, Jr., 71, passed away on Friday, January 10th, 2025, the hands of God as the author and finisher of Austin's faith closed the pages of his life at University Medical Center. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 12 pm to 1 pm and Celebration of LIfe Service will follow at 1 p.m. at Griffin Mortuary Chapel. Private Disposition will follow under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.

It is said when life begins, it is like an open book with many blank pages. Each day as we live our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and await that great getting up morning. The pages of this book began for Austin Norris, Jr. on April 23, 1953, to Austin Norris, Sr. and Luevicie Gentry in Denson, Texas.

He spent his adolescent and teen years in Lubbock, Texas, where he met his wife Barbara Jennings. Austin, Jr. was the father of seven children. Austin, Jr. graduated from Estacado High School in Lubbock, Texas.

His greatest achievement was the day he received the Lord Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Austin was a member of Buffalo Springs Community Church.

Austin, Jr. was a cook at Texas Tech for many years. He left the workforce due to an accident that left him disabled.

Austin, Jr. is preceded in death by his parents Austin Norris, Sr. and Luevicie Kelly, his mother-in-law Katherine Alexander, his brothers Danny M. Norris, and Robert Norris, his brothers-in-law John W. Jennings and Jimmy J. Jones, his sister Taleanna Norris, and his sister-in-law Felicia Jones.

Austin, Jr. leaves to cherish his memory his wife Barbara Norris, his five sons Kevis Norris, Duran Norris, Tony Cologne and wife ,Chris Cologne and his wife, and Marcel Norris, his two daughters Tanesha M. Jones and Shaundra Majors, his four brothers Tim R. Norris, Johnny Norris, Lonnie Norris, and Carl Norris, his five sisters Betty A. Norris, Mollie Norris, shenova Williams, Ailmer Norris, and Ashley Norris, and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
