Alice Toliver, 89, of Lubbock, TX gained her wings on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Lyons Chapel Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary. Visitations will be held Friday, January 12, 2024, at Griffin Mortuary from 3 to 6 p.m. Alice was born on January 21, 1934, to James Scott and Annie Mae Powers in Groesbeck, TX. Alice gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist church in Lorenzo, TX, under the late Rev. Harris, then Rev. Hankston. She later joined Hope Deliverance COGIC under the watchful care of the late Rev. Tanner, where she remained a faithful servant until her health begin to fail. She loved the Lord and knew His word. When she couldn’t physically go to church, it was always on television. She applied the word to all aspects of her life. She loved to share the work with others. In addition to sharing the word, she was an avid prayer warrior. Alice worked many years at Lubbock State School; however she retired early to be a dedicated wife and mother. She was the epitome of a matriarch. She loved to visit family. It wasn’t uncommon to find her in Tulsa, OK, Bryan, or Hearne, TX. She was always concerned about the welfare of others. Whenever she came to visit, there was never a dull moment. She had an infectious laugh and a smile that lit up the world. Alice, most lovingly known as Mom, Auntie, Grannie, or Grandma. Alice had a very charming and witty personality. Most of all she was a virtuous woman who revered the Lord. Alice is preceded in death by her parents Annie Mae Scott (Power) and James Scott, Sr., spouse Robert Toliver, brothers James Scott, Jr. and Willie Scott, sister Dorothy “Dink” Cooper, grandson Shawn “Scoot” Smith. Alice leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Nelda Scott and Rita Smith, sons Billy (Chantell) Scott, Butch Smith, and Rick (Shondra) Smith, grandchildren Jasmin Smith, Ritaye Smith, Rick Smith, Jr., Joshua Blue, Jaylon Pierce, Antwain Smith, Montray Smith, Jeremy Scott, Nicolas Scott, Christopher Scott, Destinee Verastegui, Craig Scott, David Scott, Bryan Zavala, and Brysan Zavala, 30 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
